Frequently Asked Questions:
How does Currents work?
Currents is a business-to-business marketplace for end-of-life electric vehicle batteries designed and optimized for second-life integrators. Buyers must provide their business credentials for access to the platform. Once approved, they can view and purchase Nissan’s best available inventory.
How do I get access to the platform to purchase batteries?
We only allow access for customers who are repurposing batteries into non-vehicle applications. Please provide your business’ credentials on this form and a Currents team member will reach out with your login instructions if approved. If you are a university, research laboratory, or any other non-business integrator, please feel free to register for access and a team member will be in touch to learn more about your project.
Do I have to pay for access to Currents’ platform?
Currents’ platform is free for buyers to register and use. Currents takes a commission on completed sales and the amount is included in all prices. What you see is what you pay.
Where is the supply coming from?
Currents is Nissan North America 4R’s official marketplace for second-life batteries. All batteries on Currents’ platform are owned by Nissan. If you are interested in becoming a supplier, please contact our team.
How is state-of-health determined?
Batteries are tested using a proprietary, Nissan-approved process by Spiers New Technologies (SNT). The state-of-health is the remaining/measured capacity as a percentage of the battery’s capacity when new.
How is pricing determined?
Pricing is set by suppliers, and Nissan has priced all batteries based on the remaining useful life and usable kWh.
How does payment work?
Upon checkout, you will receive an order confirmation for your batteries. Within the next 1-3 business days, you will receive an invoice for your batteries plus logistics (freight). Invoices must be paid in full in order for the batteries to be shipped, and logistics invoices remain valid for 5 business days. If payment is not received within 5 business days, we will have to arrange updated logistics and send a new invoice. Currents accepts all major credit cards. If you prefer to not use a credit card, please contact our team once you receive an invoice to arrange an ACH payment.
How do logistics work?
Once an order is received, Currents will work with Spiers New Technologies (SNT) to secure the best deal on freight. SNT is an EV battery service provider specializing in 4R services. Once we receive a quote from the carrier, Currents will send an invoice with your batteries plus freight charges which must be paid to release an order. When an invoice is paid, Currents will forward along the tracking information when the order is picked up. All shipments are photographed before the carrier picks them up, so please contact us right away if you receive any broken eggs.
What is the warranty process?
Order are eligible for a warranty return if:
- The battery arrives damaged. This could be the result of damage in transit which is why we photograph all shipments before the carrier picks them up. If a damaged battery slips through our quality control, please contact our team and photograph the battery and serial number on the battery.
- Purchaser shall have thirty (30) days after delivery to inspect the Products to confirm they are not damaged and are functional. If Purchaser wishes to claim damage or malfunction, it must make such claim within 30 days and Seller will take reasonable steps to respond to the claim. After such 30-day period Purchaser accepts all current and future legal and regulatory responsibilities applicable to the Products, including but not limited to recycling, disposal, recovery and reporting responsibilities.
Can I return or cancel an order?
Outside of the warranty scenarios listed above, all orders are final. If you need assistance responsibly managing your end-of-life batteries, please contact our team and we can connect you with a recycler in our network.
