Inventory
Managing Inventory on Currents
Currents provides a streamlined inventory management system designed to help you easily track, list, and sell your items.
The key concepts in this system are:
- Listings: Items currently active and visible on the Marketplace. Listings can be made from single items, or multiple items (i.e. a pallet of items, also referred to as a handling unit). Listings can also include multiple handling units (i.e. two pallets, each with 6 items).
- Unlisted Items: Items in your inventory that are not actively for sale on the Marketplace.
- Sold Listings: Listings that have been sold.
This guide will walk you through the workflow of uploading Inventory into Unlisted Items, then how to create active Listings.
Overview
Start by:
- Adding Inventory to your Unlisted Items
- Creating Listings, which enables multiple items on one listing (i.e. 6 Prius batteries on one pallet)
- Listings can only be made from Items in Unlisted Inventory
- Listings must be comprised of Items from the same Location
Step-by-Step Process
Step 1: Add Inventory to Unlisted Items
To get started, you need to add individual Items to your Unlisted Inventory.
Follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Unlisted Items Tab:
- Select Inventory in the left hand navigation, and select the Unlisted Items tab.
- Add New Items:
- Click on the Add Inventory button.
- Search Insight LookUp’s database for your vehicle or battery by VIN or year/make/model.
- Insight LookUp is a paid tool, but you can also enter this information manually if you are not an Insight LookUp subscriber.
- Either let Insight LookUp populate all Battery Details such as cathode chemistry, DOT classification, energy, weight, and other information, or manually enter these product details.
- Click Next to move onto the Product Details
- Enter the required details for each item, such as:
- Product Name (i.e. Toyota Prius Gen 3 Battery)
- Condition
- Price
- Although the following information is not required, we strongly encourage including to help strengthen your listing:
- Dimensions
- Part Number (i.e. OEM part number, Hollander number, etc.)
- Serial Number
- Stock Number - this is an internal-only number and will not be shown to buyers. This is an inventory management tool for sellers to align with internal stock keeping.
- Images - Listings with images convert 5x more effectively than listings without images.
- Submit the Item:
- Once all the necessary information is filled in, click Submit to add the item to your Unlisted Inventory.
Step 2: Creating a New Listing
After you’ve added inventory to the Unlisted Inventory, you can create a Listing on the Marketplace by bundling multiple items into a handling unit.
- Go to the Listings Tab:
- From the dashboard, select the Listings tab.
- Create a New Listing:
- Click on Create New Listing.
- Create a Handling Unit:
- Choose the Unlisted Items you want to bundle into a single listing, then drag and drop those items into the Handling Unit column (center column).
- Example: Select six Toyota Prius batteries to create one handling unit.
- Note: All Items on a Listing must be from the same Location.
- You can also add multiple handling units to a single listing if desired.
- Example: Two handling units, one with six Prius batteries, and one with six Camry batteries. This would create a single listing with two handling units (pallets).
- Provide Handling Unit Details:
- Handling Unit ID Number
- Upload Images of the Handling Unit (images of the palletized items are ideal)
- Handling Unit Weight
- Handling Unit Dimensions
- Note: weight and dimensions are not required, but heavily encouraged. If you do not include this information, buyers will not be able to estimate freight costs which makes selling your items much more unlikely.
- Once all information has been added, click Finalize Listing
- Add Listing Details
- Fill in the required fields for the Listing, such as:
- Listing Title
- Description
- Select cover image
- Listing Price
- Fill in the required fields for the Listing, such as:
- Review and Finalize:
- Double-check the information for accuracy.
- Click Submit to make the Listing active on the Marketplace.
Step 3: Managing and Monitoring Listings
After creating a listing, you can monitor its status and update it as needed.
- View Active Listings:
- Visit the Listings tab to view all active listings.
- You can edit, pause, or delete listings from this section.
- Track Sold Listings:
- Navigate to the Sold Listings tab to see details about completed sales.
- Review transaction history and order details for each sold listing.
- Restock or Relist Items:
- If you have additional Unlisted Items that you would like to add to a Listing, you can quickly create new listings, or update existing Listings by clicking the three vertical dots on the Listing.

Tips for Efficient Inventory Management
1. Grouping & Sorting Batteries on Pallets
Organize batteries effectively to streamline handling, documentation, and shipping.
Grouping Recommendations:
- Separate by Hazard Class: Use Insight LookUp to check which batteries are classified by the DOT as hazardous (Lithium-Ion or NiMH).
- To use Insight LookUp:
- Log in or create an account
- Select Insight LookUp in the left hand navigation
- Search using YMM or Vin
- Find the field “DOT Hazardous Materials Classification”
Tips:
- Electric Vehicle (EV) and Plug-In Hybrid Batteries: Place on their own pallet to avoid damage and ensure safe transport.
- Hazardous Batteries: Reduce mixed-pallet configurations to minimize risk and shipping cost. Use Insight LookUp to check which batteries are hazardous.
2. Taking Photos of Pallets & Batteries (While building pallet)
High-quality images increase buyer confidence and improve listing accuracy. Capture all essential details:
Photos to Capture:
- Each Pallet Layer: Take a photo of each completed layer on the pallet.
- Individual Batteries & Labels: Photograph each battery on the pallet, followed by a close-up of its label.
- Finalized Pallet: Take a photo of the finished pallet.
Photo Sequence for Each Layer:
- Entire pallet layer
- Individual battery
- Battery label
- Repeat for each battery in the layer
- Place a layer of cardboard between each layer for protection
Recommendation: Do not exceed three layers per pallet to ensure stability in shipping.
Finalizing for shipping:
- Wrap the pallet with shrink wrap.
- Band the finalized pallet with plastic bands.
- Label the pallet with a unique inventory number. (e.g. “Pallet A”)
3. Documenting Each Pallet
Accurate documentation helps buyers make informed decisions and streamlines inventory management. These details will be used in the listing’s description.
Details to Document:
- Pallet Specifications: Include weight (in pounds) and dimensions.
- Battery Breakdown: List the quantity, type, and specific vehicle of origin for each battery.
Example Documentation:
Pallet A
- Weight: 947 lbs
- Dimensions: 48 x 40 x 36”
- Battery Count: 6
- Breakdown:
- 3 from a 2006 Toyota Prius
- 2 from a 2010 Toyota Prius
- 1 from a 2008 Toyota Camry
Buyers can verify the documentation with your images to support their purchasing decisions.
